2015

So, another year is almost over so I thought I’d take this chance to reflect on some of my best moments of the year! Here we go!

 1. Meeting the best friends anyone could ask for- all thanks to The Vamps. Newcastle Richard Squad are so kind, special and all round amazing in every way and I’m so grateful that we’re all so close.

2. Meeting The Vamps. I’ve already mentioned this incredible experience on an earlier post but it definitely makes it to a 2015 highlight! Finally getting to meet 4 people who’ve made such a positive impact on my life was amazing.

 3. Going to Disneyland Paris. Disney is one of my favourite things ever- from books to films, teddies to mugs- all things Disney are just supercalifragilisticexpialidocious so you can imagine how happy I was to be walking through the park.

 4. Results Day. Ok, so it’s not quite as exciting as my other highlights but 4:30am on Tuesday 4th August was when MONTHS of stress FINALLY came to an end- when my email from the SQA came through staying my results. I was beyond happy with my results – 3 Cs, 2 Bs and an A!

 5. Climbing over the roof of the O2. 52 metres high and ascents and descents of up to 30 degrees- it’s safe to say I was terrified! Nevertheless, I faced my fears and made it to the end!

6. One Directions On the Road Again Tour. I’ve always been a massive fan of the band- and my 3 experiences seeing them this year have all been amazing. The 16 hour round trip bus journey to Cardiff, catching up with some of Newcastle Richard Squad and experiencing the show so close up- I’m beyond lucky to have had such a good year!

  7. Prom/After party. After months of ‘dress stress’ and the struggle of booking good appointments for hair, tan and nails, the night of prom was amazing! I felt genuinely confident in myself which made a change. Despite being in a muddy field in the middle of nowhere, the afterparty was also a great atmosphere and I would like to thank all of my school friends for making it such a great night.

This or That Tag- Festive Edition

So, having looked through some fellow bloggers pages for inspiration, I’ve decided to take part in the Festive Edition of the ‘This or That?’ tag!

Here it goes!

Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
I’m going to have to go with Christmas Day- all the treats and getting to see everyone so happy just makes the day so magical!

Real Tree or Artificial Tree?
This one is a bit of a cheat as I actually have both this year! We’ve always had an artificial one in our living room and last year we started a new family tradition of buying a real one for the hallway too!

Tree Ornaments or Tree Lights?
As much as I love all types of tree decorations, the lights are definitely my favourite part as they lighten up the whole room, totally adding to the Christmas mood around you!

Christmas Carolling or Watching Christmas Movies?
I’ve only ever been Christmas carolling once- back when I was about 11 and went with my primary school to a home for the elderly. This did not end well at all as I fainted mid song- never ideal! However, I’ve never had this issue with watching Christmas films so for that reason its going to have to be Christmas movies!

Eating the Christmas Cookies or Leaving Them Out for Santa?
Homemade cookies are just too good to share- sorry Santa but I’ll be eating them myself again this year!

Putting the Presents out Early or Leaving it Until Late Christmas Eve?
I love how festive it looks when all the presents are under the tree! It’s another ‘family tradition’ of mine to put presents under the tree as soon as we are given them!

Spending Christmas with Immediate Family or Extended Family?
I actually celebrate Christmas more than once. On Christmas Day it’s me, my Mum and my Granny and then in early January we have a chaotic day celebrating Christmas with my family from Newcastle.

Eggnog or Hot Chocolate?
110% hot chocolate(even though I’ve never tried eggnog).

The 1975

I recently got to see The 1975 live at the O2 Academy in Newcastle- I’ve always loved their music so when I found out they were touring again I was determined to get tickets. Throwing it back to June 5th(the day I travelled  to Cardiff to see One Direction)- when tickets also went on sale. So as if I wasn’t stressed enough, I now had the pressure of purchasing 3 tickets. Thankfully, Ticketmaster worked in my favour for the first time in forever and I got through straight away!

Here’s a couple of photos from the concert!

On The Road Again Tour 2015

So this year I had the incredible experience of seeing One Direction 3 times as part of their On The Road Again Tour.. I’m so grateful that I got to be part of such an amazing tour. On the last night I saw I somehow managed to get the setlist- after a minor nails attack from girls behind me, but worth it! OTRA was such an incredible experience and words won’t really do it justice, so here’s a ‘short’ selection of photos!

The True Value of 'Internet Friends'

Few people understand the value of internet friends, but I honestly don't know where I'd be without the friends I've made through the likes of Twitter, as a result of a mutual love of certain bands.

Until I grew the confidence to speak to people, I saw other people having best friends through the internet and I thought 'hey, that'd be cute' so through time my confidence grew and I began speaking to people who I really felt connected to, friends who understood me and knew how I felt.

In the past, I'd be scared to show my true feelings for fear of being judged, but now I'm so much more confident and happy and that's all down to the friends I've made.

It's so hard to get people who don't understand how you feel to relate with you about feelings- whether it be something that affects the whole fan base (e.g. the release of a new single/album, or that well known stress of trying to buy concert tickets), or something more personal such as how that one band has pulled you through so much in your life.

Lately, so many more people have felt the true value of making friends through their mutual love of something- be it a band, a singer, a TV series-anything. All of this is down to the incredible powers of social media.

I asked some of the amazing friends I've made through the internet to voice their opinions too- and here's what they said:

“They’re always there for you no matter what time of day or night it is”

“They can always make you smile and laugh”

“They’re better than ‘friends’ you have to put up with every day at school/college/work”

“The only way you meet someone over the Internet is by sharing a common interest so you hold a
stronger bond than those whom you might feel forced to be friends with as they are in your classes/school friendship group”

“They can always be counted on to try their best to make you happy and to be there for you every time you need it the most”

“The world is full of so many varieties of people and personalities and to be able to experience so many different people through the Internet is an amazing thought, the fact that you can make friends with someone who could be on the other side of the world in a totally different time zone”

“They’re REAL friends because they choose to speak to you, they don’t just speak to you because they have to speak to you everyday”

“Meeting them is something you can look forward to so much because you’re so connected to them and it’s so special to actually have that contact in person”

These few comments from such a small percentage of people who feel the same as me, further proves the increasing significance of having friends with the same/at least similar interests.

Having the ability to meet such amazing people is just as good (if not better) than meeting the artist who brought you together. This is because you both know each other, you have many amazing conversations to reflect on together, and of course the mutual love which brought you together in the first place.

For me personally it’s come to the stage where it doesn’t feel right to refer to all the amazing people I’ve met through the internet as ‘internet friends’- because I’ve grown so close to them they’re my BEST friends.

MAC Lipsticks

So, for this post I decided to focus on one of my favourite brands and one of their most famous items- lipsticks.

To begin with, I was only going to talk about one of the lipsticks, but I simply couldn't choose between my 3 favourites, so here they are...

Vegas Volt
MAC Vegas Volt is one of my favourite going out lipsticks. It's a bright, stand out colour that really makes a statement. I'm personally not confident enough to wear a bright red lipstick, so if you're like me then I'd definitely recommend this. As it's a creme lipstick, Vegas Volt hydrates your lips so much- so if you suffer from dry lips but want a strong colour of lipstick, this is for you!

Creme Cup
Creme Cup is a gorgeous, girly pink shade of lipstick- making it a suitable shade for the majority of skin tones.

Velvet Teddy
Last, but most certainly not least is the highly popular Velvet Teddy. It's pinky beige in colour, and has a matte finish which makes it a really good lipstick to complete an every day look.

Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris HAS to be one of the most special places I've ever visited. Walking up the main street to the 'Sleeping Beauty Castle' is simply magical.
As we didn't have much time in the park, we had to cram in as much as possible to a short space of time, including rides and of course purchasing some official Disney merchandise.
The Entrance Gates

Firstly, as we'd got to the park for the gates opening we decided to go on a ride first since there were barely any queues. But the one we'd chosen to go on, 'Phantom Manor', turned out to be little more than a haunted house that moved slightly. Thankfully it didn't last too long and we were ready for a REAL ride next! We made our way through to the Walt Disney Studios park, to go on the 'Rock 'n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith', a ride which featured 360° loops and sheer drops- it's safe to say this ride was far better than the previous one!
The Entrance to Walt Disney Studios Park

After the adrenaline rush, we had a wander round the park to try and decide which ride to choose next. After walking in circles looking at all the different attractions, we chose to go on 'Crush's Coaster'- a ride which was based around Disney Pixar's Finding Nemo.

The last ride we went on was 'The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror'- a drop tower where you plunge down 13 floors. I went on this ride the first time I visited Disneyland Paris(when I was 8)- it's safe to say I enjoyed it a LOT more this time than last time!
I couldn't not buy the photo from the ride!

Sadly, even the most magical days have to come to an end, and after a day of walking through the parks, seeing my favourite Disney characters and facing my fears on some rides, it was time to head back to the bus. Nevertheless, I had an amazing day and I'm so grateful for having the chance to visit.

Battlefields Tour

So, this summer I got to have the experience of a lifetime by taking part in a Battlefields tour of Belgium and France. The trip was an incredibly compelling and emotional time and it really opened my eyes to how horrific The Great War actually was. Here’s my diary from the tour-

5:15AM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
WHY AM I AWAKE AT THIS INHUMANE HOUR ON A SUNDAY??! Just kidding. Despite the fact that I’m really not a morning person, I managed to haul myself out of bed, get ready and get to the bus stop in plenty of time- which is always a positive. With everyone on board, our bus left just before we were due to and the excitement began.

9:00AM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
First service station stop. Despite the fact I looked and felt like I’d been dragged through a bush backwards, I was keen to stretch my legs and get something to eat(Lucozade and crisps to be exact- because who really counts the calories at this time in the morning?).

2:00PM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
Lunch stop at Maidstone Services. By this point I’d woken up a bit and looked ever so slightly less zombie like.Ever so slightly. After a quick McDonalds meal, we boarded the coach once again and continued on towards Dover, where we were to catch our ferry to France.

3:40PM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
Having passed through various passport checks we’d boarded the ferry and were ready to leave. Watching the Dover coastline slowly fade into the distance, the exciting part of the journey was finally underway.

6:10PM (CET), SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
FRAAAAANCE! The bus pulled away from Calais port and headed towards Ypres, Belgium- where we were booked into a Youth Hostel for two nights.

7:30PM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
After the full day of travel we finally pulled up at the Flanders Lodge Hostel in Ypres. We were assigned our rooms for the stay and I was put with my friends Andrea, Akiko, Ailsa, Connie and Cian- hauling our suitcases up the stairs we found the room easily enough and were pleasantly surprised by the decent room. After a quick change of clothes, everyone headed downstairs as we were having a meal in the hostel dining area- which putting it lightly wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had, but thankfully I had a massive supply of chocolates with me!

10:00PM, SUNDAY JUNE 28TH-
After dinner and a short walk around the hostel a group of us were sat outside chilling- that was until one of the members of staff came outside to speak to us…. ‘IT’S 5 PAST 10 ITS 5 PAST 10! YOU MUST BE INSIDE BY 10! Get inside!”. What a lovely welcome! We followed her orders and headed back upstairs to our rooms- ready to hit the hay before our first proper day of the trip.

MONDAY JUNE 29TH-
The sun was shining and despite the lack of sleep the previous night, there wasn’t too much of a struggle to get up and ready in time for breakfast. It was mildly better than dinner the previous night- but I did miss my Kelloggs Coco Pops.. Eventually, everyone was ready to leave the hostel and we set off, ready for an emotional rollercoaster as we explored the country. During the day we visited Bayernwald(the German trench system), the IFF Museum, Essex Farm CWGC, Langemarck German Military Cemetery, Vancouver Corner, Polygon Wood, Tyne Cot CWGC and Frezenburg (Scottish memorial). It was such an incredible experience to see so many places- and so moving to hear the stories of battles and also individuals who lost their lives during the war.

After the long day, we headed back to the hostel to get changed into our school uniforms to attend the Menin Gate ceremony that evening. Before the ceremony was due to begin, we had some free time to have a little roam around Ypres town centre. Of course the first stop was an ice cream shop which quite literally had the nicest ice cream I’ve ever tasted! We then had a brief wander around the little tourist shops where I of course bought some famous Belgian chocolate as well as the usual touristy bits. After a little more wandering, we took our places for the Menin Gate ceremony which was again a great experience.
The Menin Gate

The day ended with dinner at Tea Room Central - chicken and chips again but this time the chicken actually tasted like chicken, which is always good. Upon arrival back at the hostel everyone was absolutely exhausted so we all went straight up to bed- but of course there was much more chatting before we got shouted at by a random angry man who told us it was “a sleep room, not a play room!”- no chill man.

TUESDAY JUNE 30TH-
Thankfully, I hadn’t actually unpacked much of my stuff so I didn’t have too much stress in getting organised to leave the hostel. Once everyone was packed up and the rooms had been left in a relatively tidy way the bus pulled out of the car park as we began our journey to Albert, France- with lots of stops en route. The day consisted of us visiting the Post Office Rifles Cemetery, the Lievin Communal Cemetery Extension, the Wellington Quarry, Wancourt British Cemetery, Serre and Sheffield Memorial Park, Newfoundland Memorial Park, Lochnagar Crater and Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.

We then got to our accommodation which, putting it lightly looked like a prison when we first pulled up outside. However, the staff inside were lovely an immediate improvement on our previous accommodation in Ypres. After we’d all rushed around getting ready, we left the hostel to go for dinner at the Corner Pub, Albert. Again, the meal-a burger/steak thing(I can’t remember what they called it)with chips was far nicer than the meal the first night and although we were upstairs and separate from the other diners, there was a lovely atmosphere in the place. Once everyone had finished the meal and after dinner choc ices we walked the short distance back to the hostel only to find out we were locked out of our floor. Of course, due to the fact it was now late evening no members of staff were floating around so the teachers had to go on the hunt. After what felt like a very hot and sweaty eternity we heard the magical sound of keys jangling and a janitor came and opened to door to our floor. We finally got in and everyone changed into their pyjamas, before heading to the common room where we played Articulate for a while.

So after an incredibly eye-opening 2 day in Belgium and France, the battlefields part of our trip was over. Next up? Disneyland!  Since I’m a bigger Disney lover than the average 6-year-old, I just had to blog that part separately, so if you would like to give it a read, it’s over here.
